Research and professional interests

Before assuming his present position at Missouri State University in Springfield, Associate Professor William Hartman was a bass trombonist with the United States Marine Band, "The President's Own", in Washington, D.C., and the Stan Kenton Orchestra. While a member of the Kenton Orchestra, he recorded the albums 7.5 on the Richter Scale and Kenton Plays Chicago for Creative World records. He was also a member of the orchestra for the national touring company of Jesus Christ, Superstar. In addition to his duties at Missouri State, Professor Hartman maintains a busy and diverse performance schedule in the area. He has performed with the St. Louis and Kansas City Symphonies. In Branson, MO, he has performed with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra, Kenny Rogers, Mel Torme, Wayne Newton, Lee Greenwood, and Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass. Currently he performs with the Springfield Symphony, the Springfield Regional Opera Orchestra, the Springfield Brass Quintet, and the Missouri Brass Consortium. He holds the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Kansas and a Master of Arts in Trombone Performance from the University of Iowa, where he is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
