Research and professional interests
My articles on the theory, practice, and teaching of writing have appeared in several academic and practitioner journals. My article on the social-cultural history of Lincoln, Illinois, as seen in William Maxwell’s writings and my article on Mr. Lincoln’s 1858 first namesake town rally-speech were published in the Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society. In 2011 I published The Town Abraham Lincoln Warned: The Living Namesake Heritage of Lincoln, Illinois. This book is a case study of how academics can engage in public service based on scholarship. I have begun research on a book titled Lincoln's Rhetorical Designs. My cv is available online.
