Dr. James Philpot is associate professor in the finance and risk management department at Missouri State University. He founded and directs the department's financial planning major program. Philpot holds a PhD in finance from the University of Arkansas and is a Certified Financial Planner®.
Philpot has published in Financial Review, Managerial Finance, Financial Services Review, Journal of Financial Education, Financial Practice and Education, Journal of Business Ethics, Corporate Governance and other journals. He was president of the Southwestern Finance Association in 2010-2011 and 2020-2021, and is currently president of Arkansas Farms Inc., a closely held agribusiness. Previously, he held the Regions Bank Chair of Finance at Ouachita Baptist University. Before entering academe, he was a research economist for the State of Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.
When not thinking about finance, Philpot enjoys Wikipedia, Bible study, hiking, campfires and outdoor cooking. He founded the Arkadelphia (Arkansas) Soccer Association in 2001 and served 18 years as a referee for youth, high school and amateur matches in Arkansas and Missouri.
