Biography

Dr. Jana Ault-Phillips received her law degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She also has a finance degree and a Master of Business Administration from Missouri State University. She's a Certified Financial Planner®, the director of MSU’s financial planning program and faculty advisor for the MSU Financial Planning Association student organization.

Upon graduating from law school, Phillips became an associate at Brown, Todd & Heyburn (now Frost Brown Todd) in Louisville, Kentucky. At the firm, she assisted clients with commercial real estate development, business and estate planning, and estate administration. She also developed a real estate and estate planning practice as part of Brown Todd’s New Albany, Indiana, office.

Phillips and her family returned to Missouri where she continued her real estate and estate planning practice at Lowther Johnson in Springfield. She then spent four years as in-house real estate counsel for O’Reilly Automotive, Inc., overseeing the legal aspects of acquiring and constructing the company’s retail properties throughout the United States. She began teaching per course at Missouri State in 2008, became a full-time instructor in 2016 and a clinical assistant professor of financial planning and law in 2022.
