Research and professional interests

Dr. Randy Dillon teaches undergraduate and graduate courses such as intercultural communication, communication theory, communication and diversity in the workplace, semiotics, communication methods, interpersonal communication, popular culture and communication internships. He has also taught honor sections of the introduction to university life course. Dr. Dillon taught in Japan and South Korea, and has taught in the Missouri-London program for both a semester and summer term for Missouri State University. He has earned two university teaching awards. Dr. Dillon has also been named the “Faculty Adviser of the Year” at Missouri State University.  He then went on earn a national faculty adviser of the year award by the National Association of Academic Advising Association (NACADA). 

Since coming to the university in 1994, Dr. Dillon has researched intercultural communication and listening, public dialogue, communication pedagogy and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Currently, his research focuses on internships, and the roles culture, social class and economics influence communication in relationships. 

Dr. Dillon has held administrative positions including director of graduate studies, assistant department head and is currently the internship coordinator for the department. 

Dr. Dillon is a member of the International Listening Association, National Communication Association, Central States Communication Association as well as the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri (STAM).  For STAM, he has served as an editor of the STAM Journal and the STAM Executive Board including vice-president and president.
