Dr. Galloway's research focus is childhood obesity and metabolic syndrome. His previous and current research is to quantify in-school physical activity levels during grade school years, and to determine where this physical activity is taking place (P.E., recess, or academic classroom). State recommendations have been established for weekly physical activity accumulation during school hours and, of primary concern, is determining if these recommendations are being followed. This information provides further insight into his research on the etiology of obesity and determining early markers of adverse conditions associated with the progression from childhood to adult obesity. Along with these interests, a great focus is also placed on the relationship between exercise, stress, and immunology in overweight and obese populations.
