Professional experience

For both the didactic and the clinical year, Mrs. Giboney serves as an advisor for five to seven students from each class. Advisement during the clinical year includes oversight and advisement of each student's research project and poster.

As a faculty member, she serves on a combination of department and college committees.

She also encourages students to volunteer and participate in community activities. Examples include the following: providing sports physical exams in partnership with medical clinics and providing coverage for first aid stations at community events.

Research and professional interests

Mrs. Giboney is active in several nursing and nurse practitioner profession organizations.  She is a member of ANA, MONA, MONA-APRN-SIG, APNO and serves on several committees (former board member), AMNP founding member and secretary.  

She has actively participated in legislative issues and has testified before both houses of the Missouri legislature. She is a member and is active with MOAPA and attends monthly meeting and the annual conference.  She is a DSHR American Red Cross member.

Awards and honors

  • Advance Practice Nurses of the Ozarks named one of their two yearly scholarships for nurse practitioner students the "Sharon Giboney Scholarship" in recognition of many years of service to APNO and the profession in 2012.
  • Several certificates of appreciation from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in recognition of many years of service as a reviewer for CE modules.
  • Certificate of appreciation for service as Missouri State Representative to AANP.
  • AANP Clinical Excellence Award for the state of Missouri (voted by peers) 
  • AANP Advocacy Award for the state of Missouri (voted by peers)
