Research and professional interests

Dr. Tjaden’s primary research focus is on sexual crimes, specifically understanding how the intersectionality within the construction of identities impacts perceptions of sexual consent and coercion within “gray zone” sexual assaults. As a secondary research focus, Dr. Tjaden also studies gender-based violence & victimization as well as delving into military/law enforcement related topics. Professionally, Dr. Tjaden served as a certified peace officer in Alabama, working in Patrol, Special Services, and the Fugitive Division. She has also worked with the Department of Justice in Oregon. Dr. Tjaden is heavily involved with different military affiliated organizations and provides faculty support to the CSI Camp.
